Can you perceive the light?✨

Christmas is celebrated on December 25th, three days after the winter solstice.

It wasn’t until recently that I learned the symbolism of the date of Christmas.

Three days after the winter solstice is when you can perceive an increase in daylight.

And for those of the Christian faith, baby Jesus, was a profit of hope - a light bringer.

Education is often a space where we ignore ancient traditions and religious symbolism but this idea of “perceiving the growing light” is too beautiful to ignore.

Even on December 21st, the darkest day of the year, what we know is that light will return. The light will grow and, soon, we will see the more abundant light.

I wonder, as you prepare to shut your laptop and retreat to the holiday season, where in your work and leadership do you need to “perceive the light”?

✨Do you need the promise of light to remember that even the most dysfunctional team can be healed?

✨Do you need the small but growing light to believe you can do good work without being exhausted and overwhelmed?

✨Do you need the light to shine on the self doubt in your heart until you remember that you are a gift to the world?

Wherever there is darkness in your experience or leadership, light is possible - perhaps inevitable.

This holiday season my wish for you is simple, that you allow and receive rest, peace, and good care in your time away.

It’s also that your spirit in the new year is buoyed by the growing light.
